Changes in ARI 885-98 - Calculation for Room NC from Catalog Sound Power

ARI Standard 885 is the "Standard for Estimating Occupied Space Sound Levels in the Applications of Air Terminals and Air Outlets". The standard was developed by the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) to establish a uniform industry procedure for estimating sound pressure levels in occupied spaces served by air terminals and/or air outlets. ARI 885 establishes consistent, industry-accepted practices for calculating room sound pressures used to determine the Noise Criteria (NC) of a terminal in a space.

NFPA 90A 2002 Revision and Raised Floor Air Distribution

The previous version of NFPA 90A, the 1999 Edition, did not address air diffusers designed for raised floor applications. The standard test method for NFPA compliance was NFPA 255, the NFPA equivalent to ASTM E84, also called the "tunnel test". This test required a 24 foot sample of product to be tested in a fire tunnel and was not applicable for discrete devices, such as the access floor diffusers.

ARI Certified VAV Terminal Unit Program

TITUS actively participates in ARI's Certified VAV Terminal program each year and has since its inception in the late 1980s. The certification program's purpose is to ensure the accuracy of product performance data shown in ARI's Directory of Certified Applied Air-Conditioning Products. As a charter member of ARI, TITUS volunteered to be part of the preliminary independent tests. Results from the preliminary tests helped establish certification test guidelines and standards. Certification tests are conducted annually at an independent test facility where four units are sent for testing. As in years past, ARI used ITS/Intertek Testing Services located in Cortland, New York for testing.
